Recommended for these needs

If you are weighing wispr flow vs superwhisper, you have already decided to dictate instead of type and need to pick which app gets the subscription. Both put speech into any text field, both list 100+ languages, and both run on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. The differences are where your audio is processed, how each free plan is measured, and what you pay over time.

The top results are the two vendors' own comparison pages and a Reddit thread, and the vendor pages disagree on basic facts. We checked each claim against official pricing, help, privacy and refund pages on October 9, 2026. We did not test either app.

Quick answer: choose Superwhisper for fully offline dictation, a free plan with no weekly word cap, or a lower bill ($8.49 per month, $84.99 per year, or $249.99 once). Choose Wispr Flow if cloud-only processing is fine and you want the same cloud dictation on Windows PCs, Intel Macs and Android tablets, or published per-seat team pricing; Pro costs $15 per month or $144 per year.

Where the vendor comparison pages contradict each other

Superwhisper's comparison page ranks first and Wispr Flow's comparison page ranks third. Each gets the other wrong in places; here is what each company's own documentation says.

  • Superwhisper platforms. Wispr's table calls Superwhisper a Mac and iOS app. Superwhisper's docs describe native Windows 10 and 11 support and an Android app for phones. Windows still lacks Filesync, coding agent integrations and the command-line tool.
  • Superwhisper compliance. Wispr's page says there is no public certification info. Superwhisper says it is SOC 2 Type II certified, with the report available through its Trust Center under NDA, and its enterprise page offers a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement on request.
  • Superwhisper editing. Wispr calls it basic transcription. That fits the free plan, whose modes have no AI processing, but not Pro, which adds AI modes such as Super, Message, Mail and Note plus custom modes.
  • Wispr Flow's free plan. Superwhisper's page says Wispr gives 2,000 words and then locks you out. Wispr's pricing page and help center describe a weekly allowance: 2,000 words on desktop and 1,000 on mobile, counted separately and reset every Sunday at 12 a.m. PT.
  • Processing. Superwhisper is right that Wispr Flow is cloud only; Wispr's data controls page says transcription always occurs on the cloud. Both now claim SOC 2 Type II and offer HIPAA agreements, so the real difference is architecture.
  • Speed. Wispr claims 4x faster than typing. Neither vendor publishes latency in milliseconds, and none of the top three results, including the Reddit thread, has a measured test.

Superwhisper Pro vs free, and the Wispr Flow weekly cap

  • Superwhisper Free gives unlimited dictation with local Whisper models, two modes without AI processing, custom vocabulary and text replacements, and nothing you dictate leaves your device. The docs say every Whisper model is free; the changelog announced this for macOS, so Windows users should confirm in the app.
  • Superwhisper Pro adds cloud voice models, extra local models, AI modes, context awareness, file transcription, system audio and your own AI API keys. The 3,000-word Pro trial is one time, not weekly.
  • Wispr Flow Free includes speech-to-text in any app, 100+ languages, and the dictionary and snippets. On iPhone, dictation slows after 1,000 weekly words and is blocked at 1,500; Android is capped at 1,500 until the reset. Unused words do not carry over.
  • Wispr Flow Pro removes the cap. Command Mode, for editing text by voice, needs a paid plan or trial and is still in beta.

If you dictate more than 2,000 words a week on a computer and want to stay free, only Superwhisper allows it, and only with local models and no AI cleanup.

Superwhisper price vs Wispr Flow: 1, 2 and 3 year cost

List prices in US dollars for one person, before tax:

  • Wispr Flow Pro, monthly: $180 for one year, $360 for two, $540 for three.
  • Wispr Flow Pro, yearly: $144, $288, $432. Yearly billing saves 20%.
  • Superwhisper Pro, monthly: $101.88, $203.76, $305.64.
  • Superwhisper Pro, yearly: $84.99, $169.98, $254.97. Yearly billing saves about 17%.
  • Superwhisper Lifetime: $249.99 once.

Lifetime costs less than two years of Wispr Flow's yearly plan and less than three years of Superwhisper's own. Superwhisper says Lifetime keys never expire and one Pro license works on all platforms, with no device limit for Mac and Windows computers. Wispr Flow sets fixed prices in 24 currencies, so non-US buyers should check the local price. Plan details are in our Wispr Flow pricing guide and Superwhisper pricing guide.

Refunds. Superwhisper offers a 30-day refund window from first purchase on superwhisper.com, Lifetime included; renewal charges are not separately refundable, and it cannot refund App Store purchases. Wispr Flow's terms say refunds are only issued if required by law, though you can cancel any time. With Wispr Flow, decide on the free plan or trial before paying for a year.

Students. Superwhisper lists 40% off list price for verified students, faculty and non-profits, requested before purchase. Wispr Flow says some verified students get a free annual plan and others pay $7.50 per month or $72 per year; check eligibility in the app.

Local vs cloud: privacy, training and compliance

Superwhisper lets you choose per mode. With a local voice model and its on-device language model, it says no audio or text leaves your machine. With cloud models, its docs cite zero-data-retention terms with providers, no training on your audio or transcripts, and history stored on your device. Custom vocabulary words are sent with the audio as hints. Its privacy policy dates from June 2024 and describes local-only use, so the security docs are the better reference for cloud features.

Wispr Flow always transcribes in the cloud and processes customer data in the United States. Audio is deleted once transcribed unless cloud storage is on. The model improvement setting is on by default for Free and Pro; turn it off and Wispr says nothing you say trains its models, though processing stays in the cloud. Enterprise locks training off, and Growth admins control it. The security FAQ says encryption is not end-to-end in the strict sense.

Compliance. Wispr Flow provides a SOC 2 Type II report and an ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certificate, but its Notetaker meeting feature was not in those audits. It signs a HIPAA BAA for dictation on any plan, which turns off Notetaker and Scratchpad. Superwhisper offers a BAA on request and documents a local-only setup. Both can sign the paperwork; only Superwhisper can keep audio off the network.

Languages, custom vocabulary and modes

Languages. Wispr Flow detects one language per dictation, recommends picking languages manually, and tunes seven (French, German, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Thai) to English-level performance. It cannot identify Urdu, Hebrew or Ukrainian from speech alone. Superwhisper's coverage depends on the model: 100+ for S1-Voice and multilingual Whisper, 24 for Parakeet Multilanguage, 14 for Cohere Transcribe. Pro can translate into English.

Vocabulary. Both include it free. Wispr Flow adds a word automatically when you correct its spelling and offers snippets, voice shortcuts for repeated text. Superwhisper has custom vocabulary plus text replacements.

Modes. Superwhisper has Super, Message, Mail, Note, Meeting and custom modes that can switch on automatically per app, some with a casual-to-formal tone slider. Modes are stored per device unless you use Filesync, which is macOS only. Wispr Flow removes filler words, adds punctuation and formats your writing; its Styles work only in English on desktop. Wispr plans also include Notetaker for meeting notes on Mac and Windows, but this comparison is about dictation.

Accuracy. Wispr Flow now runs on Canto, its own speech model, and Superwhisper reports a 6.6% word error rate for its S1-Voice cloud model. Each company tested on its own data, so the numbers are not comparable.

Which should you choose? A decision flow by reader type

  • Audio must stay on the device, or you work offline: Superwhisper with local models. Wispr Flow cannot do this.
  • Intel Mac or a Windows PC without a strong GPU: Superwhisper says Intel Macs work best with cloud models, and some Windows local models need Vulkan or fall back to a much slower CPU path. Wispr Flow is cloud everywhere.
  • Under 2,000 words a week on a computer (1,000 on a phone): either free plan works.
  • Daily use on a budget: Superwhisper at $84.99 per year against $144 for Wispr Flow; Lifetime beats Superwhisper's yearly plan from the third year.
  • Buying team seats: Wispr Flow publishes Growth pricing per user. Superwhisper's team option is custom Enterprise pricing.
  • Tablet users: neither lists iPad support; only Wispr Flow runs on Android tablets.
  • Want a refund safety net: Superwhisper's 30-day web refund is more forgiving.

Want a Wispr Flow alternative because of the weekly cap or cloud-only processing? Superwhisper is the closest match. Need a Superwhisper alternative for an Android tablet, an Intel Mac or team seats? Wispr Flow is the direct swap. For Wispr Flow's privacy defaults and complaints, see our Wispr Flow review.

Wispr Flow vs Superwhisper FAQ

Is there anything better than Wispr Flow?

It depends on your priorities. Superwhisper costs less and can run offline; Wispr Flow has posted team pricing and does not rely on your hardware for transcription. Apps in related searches, such as MacWhisper, VoiceInk and Willow, were outside this comparison.

Is Wispr Flow getting worse?

Wispr's changelog acknowledged in June 2026 that some users saw slower dictation, lower accuracy or trouble signing in, and later fixed an Auto Cleanup setting it called too aggressive for some users. All were marked fixed. In September 2026 it moved to Canto, its own speech model. No independent test shows a trend either way.

Do people actually use Wispr Flow?

On October 9, 2026, its US App Store listing showed 4.8 from about 17,000 ratings and Google Play showed 1M+ downloads. Superwhisper showed 4.4 from 839 App Store ratings and 1K+ Android downloads. These snapshots change daily and exclude desktop users.

What do you lose with Superwhisper free vs Pro?

Free keeps unlimited local dictation, two modes without AI, custom vocabulary and text replacements. Pro adds AI modes, cloud and extra local models, context awareness and file transcription. You can try Pro for 3,000 words first.

What does Reddit say about Wispr Flow vs Superwhisper?

The top thread is one user's comparison in the Superwhisper subreddit. It rates Wispr Flow faster and easier to start, and Superwhisper more precise and cheaper over time thanks to Lifetime. It has no measurements, so treat it as one opinion.

Bottom line: at October 9, 2026 list prices, Superwhisper costs less for an individual on monthly and yearly billing and is the only one of the two that can keep your audio on your device. Wispr Flow is the more direct choice for cloud dictation on Windows, Intel Macs and Android tablets, and for teams that want posted per-seat prices. Start on the free plan that fits and pay once you hit its limit.
